After the children have gone to school in the morning today, three of us ladies left Calgary at eight o’clock sharp with the excitement for a hike at Johnston Canyon that is 18 km northwest of Banff (130 km west of Calgary). This place shows the power of nature and time - rushing water carves limestone into a canyon and potholes over the years. It took us three hours to reach to the Ink Pot and came back to the base – 11.6 km and 215 m elevation. There were icy patches where hiking boots didn’t help, but we were glad we did not give up.

What is the beeping noise you are making?
Ink Pot (spring water bubbles from the sand / mud)
Do you know what kind of bird this it? It stares at our lunch when we ate by the Ink Pot.

Driving Back - Rundle Mountain in Banff
Wow, your photos make me breathless every time! That black bird is a raven; they are very intelligent! The chipmunk was also very cute, I'm surprised you didn't see more wildlife, actually.

Thinking maybe not chipmunk, but a red squirrel?

What are the amazing photos you posted here! Rundle Mountain, my old memory, I cannot wait to visit Banff again.

Hi Annette,
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, thank you for driving K and J to the ROC event tonight; you saved me. Thank you for your encouraging note too! I was absolutely refreshed by the air, water and green. I crashed to bed and had a nap once I got home! The Raven was waiting for my left over. It is indeed really intelligent, but lazy. We did see mountain goats or sheep too, but they are shedding so they are too ugly to be on my blog.
See you Sunday! ::Y::
Hi Yi,
ReplyDeleteYou used to work at Banff Culture Center by the hot spring, didn’t you? Wow, I bet you miss it very much. I still remember we visited you in your apartment in Banff 18 years ago. Well, a real artist’s words are very encouraging. Thank you! I found changing lenses is a pain. Should I have two cameras? ::Y::
Oh Yi,
ReplyDeleteTell you a good news - they are constructing a cycling path along Trans Canada Highway #1 from Canmore to Banff. Maybe you can take your daughter…
Amazing photos... Amazing place. Take more photos, you'll need them when you move to Kuwait!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Bu Yusef. Yes, that was the reason for the photo taking. But I also think Kuwait is a different venture and I am excited about that!
