Lamb Dumplings

July 7th Wednesday. ExploreMan called in the morning from his work that we needed to go to Ahmadi Hospital for blood group test. The American couple picked up us from home; and when we entered the hospital, we were surprised how nice it was! The hospital looks like a star hotel! A nice lady with a huge smile on her face greeted us at the entrance and soon we were taken to the lab and the blood work was completed in minutes. We knew later that AW, the company passport office guy, has arranged everything ahead of time so everything appeared efficient. Thank you, AW!

After the blood work done at noon, we invited the American couple over for supper. The husbands went back to work and left us two wives at our new home. I had had trouble to find wonton wraps here in Kuwait, so I had made them using my Italian noodle maker I bought in Calgary – very first time. Then I had frozen the lamb wontons in the freezer, so we could make a quick lunch. My new friend and the kids really liked my newly invented lamb wonton soups.

Then we started the lamb dumpling making. I had ground lamb, green onion, cilantro, cumin powder, olive oil (I could not find sesame oil then), salt, green pepper and tomatoes as the filling. We made the wrappings using a jade/marble roller my Calgarian Chinese gave to me. (It was so heavy for my luggage!) It was so much fun making the dumplings while making new friends.

I also made a pot of stewed lamb as well with onion, soy sauce, sorts of spices, balsamic vinegar, sugar, salt, ginger roots and potatoes and carrots. Wow, they tasted way better (much more tender) than what we had in Calgary, although they were all from New Zealand. I guess maybe the method of butchering is different.

After dinner we drove to Carrefore (French version of maga Wal-Mart) for more groceries. I jumped up when I found Sesame oil made in Taiwan, even though I did not find my favourite one made in Japan. Suddenly I had a five-minute homesick, just thinking about T&T (an oriental grocery store in Canada). But I got rid of the negative thought right away and enjoyed my exotic fruits hunt.
